"I am Tasio the Trickster and I am here to help you."

Due to 'help' from a mischievous trickster, Eric is stranded in a world where monsters and magic are as common as homework and hotdogs. While he struggles to adjust he receives an offer to join a mercenary guild. Between training and missions he's unaware of the forces at work in his life. All of them have a stake in his quest to acquire A Mage's Power.

Eric returns to Tariatla but his reputation precedes him. In his new home he is hailed as Dengel's Vessel and The Trickster's Choice. Neither of these titles will allow him to live as a humble mercenary. They attract dangerous attention. A shadow looms over Eric and will stop at nothing to snuff him out.

Here's a free preview for your enjoyment.

If you're interested, you can read more about here at its Tvtropes page.

Its ebook format can be found at Amazon. For now, the paperback version is only available at CreateSpace.

Eric Watley has recovered from mana mutation but a question remains: is he still Eric Watley? He may look human, but a monster's madness lurks behind his eyes. With the upcoming Mana Mutation Summit, the whole world is watching to see if he is the cure they have been waiting for, or one more beast to be slaughtered. The future of Tariatla rests on his shoulders. Can he convince its leaders of his humanity, while at the same time, dodge his growing list of enemies?

The Trickster's Choice attracts much unwanted attention. Lunas of Latrot, the ordercraft prince, schemes to exploit the menace of Mana Mutation for his own purpose. Joining him are a legion of Eric's old foes, from Gruffle the troll and Nulso Xialin to the Gods of Death. All of them seek to do harm to Eric himself, his friends or his world. So much for being a humble mercenary.

A preview to Eric's monstrous troubles is available here.

Both the e-book and paperback format are available at Amazon. The paperback version can also be ordered directly from CreateSpace.

You can read more about the story at the The Mana Mutation Menace Tvtropes page

The problem with fighting death is that you will eventually lose.

Eric has provoked the fury of no fewer than three grim reapers and now they're after his life. Leading the charge is his old foe, Gruffle. Flanked by an army of ghosts and nature spirits, and supported by Lord Death himself, Gruffle's victory is guaranteed. Eric's only hope of survival is to transcend the limitations of both mortality and magecraft and fight the hostile gods as an equal. Chaotic deities support him in his endeavor but they might be a greater danger than the reapers.

  4. Dude, EXCELLENT story you done toonomi proud! That being said will you PLEASE!!!! have one of your lit-major friends edit it for you. The grammar errors really do throw you out of the story, and that gets annoying after awhile. However I am still awaiting the sequel! You have real talent, now lets see you put it to good use!

  5. Well its been awhile. Don't suppose you could throw a hint out of when Looming Shadow comes out could you?

    1. It won't be next month, I can tell you that much. If you want it before the official release, you could beta read it for me.

    2. Wow! I would love to. Any chance to get to read it early would be awesome! You've got a seriously potential heavy series in your head. All the characters are funny and are mysterious enough that when you finish a book you can't help but wonder what they'll do next. I hope you got plans for the series past Looming Shadow already brewing on the back burner of your noggin kitchen. Fyi that's where you cook up these stories. : ) I hope that's as amusing as it was in my head.

    4. i have a question, i still dont understand about the centaur, is he dead, alive, or was he actually tayso the trickster because they did have the same attitude, and DiBs you are so lucky to be able to read them before the world. Brian Wilkerson can you please tell me what is the way you write, like do you do characters first or do you think of a plot, etc.

      Delete
    5. Centaur? Do you mean the horse chimera? He's could be The Trickster or he could be a normal civilian.

Characters are more important than plot because plot is nothing more than character interaction.

  6. Hi i also loved this story, bloody glued me to my kindle for 2 days straight with less than 5 hours sleep total lol. I agree with Dibs the plot was fantastic and has serious potential to be on par with some of my fave authors like paolini, feist and sanderson but the grammar was a bit rough leaving this diamond a bit rough on the edges however still beautiful.

I've sent you an email with a bit more constructive criticism, hope it helps.
    Keep it up dude.

  7. Loved the story, however the grammar was horrible. The reverse word names got a little old also, is funny when it is puny sometimes, but use it too much and it becomes a distraction. You did a great job at entertaining all the way through, fast paced reading and enjoyable characters.

  8. I am currently reading the book and I look forward to the next installment. It reminds me of a compilation of my favorite anime stories. Eric and Nolien are a bit irritating and Tiza is growing on me, but the development is highly interesting. I can't wait for more. Kudos

    1. I finished revising chapter 10 last night. It's part of a story arc in serious need of rewriting. Hopefully the revision will go faster in the next two arcs.

  12. Hope you don't mind all the whining. When I find a series I like I tend to get impatient. You write it as you need to. Your the Boss. Ill just be over in the corner mumbling to myself try to ignore me. After all this when Looming Shadow comes out Ill blow through it and just start mumbling again about book3 so please don't mind me. : )

    1. Yes. I'm working on chapter sixteen which is part of the second-to-last arc. It requires extensive revision but the final may not. Rest assured, as soon the revision is complete I'll send it to you for beta reading.

Thanks for all these comments. They are just the kick-in-the-pants I need.

  16. I feel like I'm nagging. Sorry man. I get impatient REALLY easy especially when its a book. I would never want an author to rush their story. That would ruin the quality. Do it they way you want to do it.......but faster. lol : )

  17. Any updates on the status of the second book? I just finish book one and really enjoyed it (after getting past the numerous spelling mistakes and other wording problems.

  22. Any update on the release date for book 4?

  23. Things came up in the publishing process so book 4 won't be ready for a few more months. March would be an early date, but April is more realistic.

  24. Any chance of an audiobook adaptation of the series?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes there is but it's not going to happen in the near future.
I just recently stepped into the paperback market which has caused enough of a delay in the writing of new books. I've read about what goes into the creation of an audiobook and I'm not ready to go that way yet. When I feel more comfortable with the idea then I will do it.

      Delete
    2. I thought the narrator did all of the work creating the audiobook?

      Delete
    3. Yes, there is someone I can pay to do this but that doesn't mean there's no work for me. I have to find someone to do it, consider the pros and cons of which business model to use, evaluate the product they create, and possibly more stuff that I don't know about.

      Delete
    4. I haven't considered that part...
Business model to use? I thought that it would simply end up on Audible and Amazon?
Also, regarding the audiobook process, have you checked out ACX.com?

      Delete
    5. I imagine it will end up on Audible and Amazon. I haven't heard of ACX.com. I'll look into it.

      Delete
    6. I don't have personal experience with the site, but the authors who have used it that I have talked to have said that it makes the process much easier for the author

    1. Listen to music, watch a show, read a book, sleep on it, refer to my CAL (Character Action List - this is a blog post). That is it in a nutshell.
